Johnny Derango (DirectorofPhotography.com) is a sought-after cinematographer and producer working across major studio films and premium television. Named one of American Cinematographer Magazine’s Rising Stars of Cinematography, he has built a career defined by visually driven storytelling at scale, balancing emotional authenticity with refined technical execution. Derango has shot for leading studios and networks including Lionsgate, MGM/Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, and Paramount, as well as global brands such as Mandarin Oriental Hotels, Firefox, Napster, Nissan, Southwest Airlines, and Tyson Foods.
Most recently, Derango lensed the Lionsgate feature I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2, starring Milo Ventimiglia, and the MGM/Amazon pilot The Old Stories: Moses, starring Sir Ben Kingsley.
In addition to his work as a cinematographer, Johnny serves as a producer on many of his projects. He executive produced the series Everyone Is Doing Great alongside James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti. Seasons 1 and 2 are set to premiere on Netflix in May 2026, with Derango directing an episode of the series.
He also co-produced and lensed the Lionsgate feature Unsung Hero, which debuted at #2 at the U.S. box office and grossed over $20 million domestically. Additionally, he served as cinematographer on Flight Risk, directed by Academy Award® winner Mel Gibson starring Mark Wahlberg, Topher Grace, and Michelle Dockery, which opened #1 at the box office.
Johnny continues to work as a Cinematographer and Producer splitting his time between Los Angeles, Chicago and Nashville.
